 Bishop Alfred L. Boyd

Pentecostal Assemblies of the World

    1914 ~ 1978

Bishop Alfred L. Boyd was born November 5, 1914 in Crofton, Kentucky, the son of John and Pinkie Boyd. He was one of 7 children born to this union. Alfred attended school in Crofton. He was married to Loria Flowers in 1935, (she preceeded him in death) and to this union was added one son. In 1937, Alfred moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he was baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost at Bethel Tabernacle in 1938. He worked at the Link Belt Company for several years after which he went into the trucking business and also he operated an ice cream parlor.

Alfred was faithful in his position of Sunday School Superintendent, Praise Service Leader, Treasurer, and acting Assistant Pastor under Elder J.H. Grier who was his Pastor and Teacher for several years. Because of his great devotion and zeal for God he was personally responsible for many souls that were added to that church and for creating an evangelistic attitude among the saints. For this cause there was constant growth in the church. He gave up his business to work with Elder Gus Hogan in tent meetings. On October 4, 1951 he was installed as pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, and was united in Holy Wedlock to Lillian Brown on the same evening.

Elder Boyd became a member of the Minnesota District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, and a year later he was elected Chairman of the Council. He was made District Elder by the late Bishop F.L. Clark. In 1957, Elder Boyd was appointed Chairman of the newly formed Tri-State Council of Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming by Bishop J.S. Holly of Chicago, Illinois. A few years later he was appointed Suffragan Bishop under Bishop Noble Pace, and became Diocesan Bishop after Bishop Pace's retirment.

In March of 1976, Bishop Boyd suffered a stroke, but as he had taught throughout the land that it is better to trust the Lord than man for everything, he held on during the 2 years and 11 months of his illness.  In 1978, Bishop Alfred L. Boyd went home to be with the Lord. He left behind a host of friends, and countless ministerial colleagues in all parts of the country. Audio Recordings of Bishop A.L. Boyd are available in our Audio Library.
